Week of 1/10-1/14

In the beginning of the week, we did the xplora test. During the rest of the week we worked on the review sheet for the semester finals that are next week. We also worked on extended metaphor poems.

January 3-9th

On the eighth through ninth, we prepared for the Explore Test. Ms. Nickow helped us through the practice exam. She, also, gave us helpful tips on how to take the test and how to read the selections we will be given for the test.

This week in english class we learned about different kinds of poems and literary terms. Some of the different kinds of terms we learned were anaphora, assonance, diction, enjambment, hyperbole, rhyme scheme, slant rhyme, stanza, allusion, and onomatopoeia.

English Class January 3rd through 7th

This week in English Class we started with a BANG! (bang is an example of onamonapia)
The week began with a poetry intro. Then we took some notes on literary terms, and we found the terms in different examples of poetry. Finally the week ended with some practice for our EXPLORE TEST. Now we are all prepared for what ever that test can dish out!

This week in Mrs. Nickows seccond period class, we read scenes out of the book A Raisin in the Sun. The picture to the left shows characters Ruth and Walter in the kitchen. Walter looks confused about the paper in his hand and Ruth looks worried.

This week, being a short week, we spent most of our class time learning correct comma usage. The picture above speaks for itself on the importance of commas. The rest of the week we either played word riddle games or observed Thanksgiving weekend.

11/22-11/26

This week, we played a pretty cool game. Ms.Nickow gave each of us a note card with a picture on it, we had to find the other person with the same picture and describe ideas and thoughts related to the picture. This game taught us about abstract and concrete nouns. Abstract nouns are things you feel and concrete nouns are things you can touch and see. The next day, we learned about how commas are really important on the ACTs, we should know how to use them, and when to use them. In this short week we had a great time learning.
